Company Description

The Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority WAPDA is a government-owned public utility that maintains power and water in Pakistan, although it does not manage thermal energy. WAPDA includes the Tarbela and Mangla dams to its resources. The head office is located in Lahore.
WAPDA was established by a law in 1958 to unify the maintenance of infrastructure previously overseen by provincial authorities. Among the chairmen were outstanding officials such as Ghulam Ishaq Khan, Ghulam Faruque Khan and Aftab Ghulam Nabi Kazi, who went on to serve as President of Pakistan, Minister of Commerce and Economic Adviser respectively. In October 2007, thermal energy management was split into the newly formed Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO).
