Survey of Pakistan, which emerged as the successor to the Royal Survey of India before the partition, is a National Surveying and Mapping Organization of the country. It is primarily responsible for all kinds of topographical surveys of cis-border areas of the entire country. The basic products include map sheets in scale 1:50,000 and 1:250,000. The department actively participates in national development projects and in this way meets the increasing surveying and mapping requirements of various (semi-)governmental and autonomous bodies.

The geodetic data compiled and maintained by the department is unmatched in accuracy and usage. The department has reached a milestone in recent years by gradually switching to surveying and mapping using modern techniques, methods and equipment. This resulted in the excellent ability to use and manipulate topographical data to develop a wide variety of applications, including the geographic information system.

Mission of Survey of Pakistan

To demarcate and delineate international boundaries, conduct topographic surveys, prepare national geographic database and publish maps of Pakistan Type Geology, Mineralogy, Geography and Earth Sciences

Functions of SOP

To research, print and publish topographic maps of the cis border area of ​​Pakistan in 1:50,000 scale and derived maps in 1:250,000 and 1:1,000,000 for the general public and the armed forces of Pakistan. Conducting cantonment surveys and other surveys on any scale that the government/semi-government/autonomous authorities may require. A ~ Z Maps and atlases of desired information for national development projects and the general public. Establishing and maintaining Pakistan’s National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
