The Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), was established under the Sindh Education Foundation Act, 1992 as a semi-autonomous organization with a mandate to support education in the province through multifarious interventions.
The Act gives the Foundation extensive powers to support the education sector through a wide range of instruments and support activities.

Since its inception in 1992, the Foundation has made serious efforts to increase access to quality education for the students in Sindh, especially those in the remote and underdeveloped regions of the province.
Initially, SEF’s modus operandi focused on granting scholarships and loans to educational institutions and organizations. Today, the Foundation provides communities with access to quality education in partnership with individuals and/or organizations.

The Foundation ensures the provision of equal quality education in its education-related portfolio through regular expansion of professional development and capacity building for the school partners and the teachers as an important input for improving the overall development capacities of the students.

The Foundation has institutionalized a student assessment system to monitor student performance, unlike a school monitoring system that is currently undergoing further modernization.
