Peshawar Development Authority (abbreviated as PDA) is a public utility corporation responsible for providing municipal services in Peshawar. In 1975, the Greater Peshawar Metropolitan Authority (PMA) was established under Urban Planning Act 1975. In 1978, PMA was renamed Peshawar Development Authority (PDA).
Responsibilities and Services of Peshawar Development Authority
The PDA is the department in charge of construction in Peshawar. This includes roads, parks and plants. The Authority has developed mega housing projects such as Hayatabad and Regi Model Town, in addition to constructing almost all major and minor roads in Peshawar district, including the 30 km GT-Jamrud Road and the 50 km Rind Road and all the flyovers in the city.
PDA is the only self-sufficient government agency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province operating under an independent and fully autonomous board under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister as Chairman and the Director General PDA as Secretary of the Board.
PDA has an active workforce of approximately 4,600 employees spread over 23 directorates with geographical coverage across the Peshawar division, including Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera districts and with operational areas ranging from roads and building construction to horticulture, park development, street lighting , sanitation, firefighting to safety and urban planning and development. The Authority is headed by the Director General.
